One more for the road

In: Music, Video

And just because the video was in high quality, I think what needs to happen is a little bit of dirty rock and roll. Not because I think you’re soft or anything like that, but because it’s Friday and I already know you’re scared of what you don’t understand. Which is precisely why I scare you, well that and the fact I was already in your shower when you tried to jump in.

Go ‘head play it, I double dognut dare you!

:: Reeewind :: Disagreement

In: Music, Reeewind, Video

If there’s one thing I cant stand, its a whole bunch of agreement. you agree that you are great, you agree that you can do no wrong and you agree that your music is the best and this stuff sucks and this movie was better than that movie and you are generally better than anyone that you haven’t or have gotten to know.

Well let me tell you this, you might think you are awesome (which you are not), but you ain’t:

nor are you:

and you surely ain’t!:

I hope that I’ve made my point clear. So as you are sitting on your toilet, reading whatever magazine that helps you sneer the best, remember until you blessed as many as the devastating rev tom, you’re still just a constipated west coast unknown monkey on daytons.

you’re welcome

:: Video :: Jake One – Home

In: Music, Video

Here’s a dope video from Seattle’s Jake One off of his debut album, White Van Music. The first time I heard Jake One was back in the late-’90s when he was producing beats for an indie label out of Seattle called Conception Records. Dude has come a long, long way since then, and is now one of the top producers in the game. This tune is a tribute to his hometown, and the video is put together really well. In his words:

Finally, I’m happy to present the video to my tribute to Seattle, “Home”. The song features MC’s Vitamin D, Note, Maneak B and Ish, who have all been big influences in my music. Sir Mix-a-Lot brought out his orange Lambo and Nate Burleson repped the town and the Seahawks as well. Super Director Zia [Mohajerjasbi] did a phemomenal job creating the perfect visual for the music and now its time for the world to see it.

I played the beat for this tune in touch&feel:radio episode 15.0 (New episode is in the works, so stay tuned):

Am I the only one suddenly reminded of this?

We featured an early preview of Karizma‘s much anticipated A Mind of Its Own V2.0 album back in March.

Well, the promo machine keeps chugging away (and I’ll shamelessly help that effort here). R2, the label, has just released an EPK (electronic press kit) for the new record, which is slated for release on June 29. You can sample all 15 tracks via the player on their site. You can also check out the promo video below:

Some of the footage in the video was taken from an interview with OffTheMeters.com. You can check out their full Karizma interview there.

And here’s the sneak preview podcast they’ve done for the album. (It’s longer than the sampler I posted back in March).

After setting 2007 alight with his award winning debut solo album A Mind Of Its Own, Karizma returns with the highly anticipated sequel: A Mind Of Its Own – Version 2.0 The Upgrade! Karizma continues to defy categorization as he moves between his customarily ferocious club bangers through down-tempo burners, atmospheric soundtracks and even smoothed out soul with featured vocalists Monique Bingham, Fruity and Djinji Brown on rap duty. Karizma’s trademark fusion of raw electronic grooves transcend through the house, broken, dubstep and so called ‘funky house’ scenes, his raw style influencing beatmakers across the genres. Karizma has been putting in the work in 2008 tearing up dancefloors the world over from the far-east, throughout Europe and coast to coast in the U.S. In That time he produced over 20 tracks for this album, (additional tracks available digitally) not to mention remixes for numerous artists including 4Hero, Osunlade and Dennis Ferrer’s Objektivity label. On A Mind Of Its Own V2.0 The Upgrade, Karizma has raised the bar once again as he continues to find new ways to rock clubs, cars and headphones worldwide …

I know this is old, but I hadn’t seen it until last night, and it makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside that I can’t help but re-post it here. (Thanks to my friend Adrienne for sending this my way).

The kids are part of PS22 Chorus, a group of about 60 fifth-graders from Staten Island’s P.S. 22 in Granteville, directed by music teacher Gregg Breinberg. They have a ton of clips online at their YouTube channel. You can read more about them in their local paper, or follow their day-to-day achievements at the PS22 Chorus blog.

I had seen these kids do a Coldplay tune online somewhere a while back, and that was great, too. But “Jóga” is a song I actually give a shit about, so this one hits me a little deeper.

Soul Imperial – From 9:00 Until mix

Soul Imperial

It’s a beautiful day outside in NY, and this new Soul Imperial mix from the good folks at Mixtape Riot is the perfect soundtrack. Ballantino and Elegante put a little of everything into this one and it works from front to back.

In their words:

This is a mix to make you feel good and help celebrate life, just like we’ve been doing in Brooklyn so far this summer.

I actually like this. Go figure.

Back in 2000, I was witness to one of the greatest (and most overlooked) rap battles of all time. I’ve been asked over the years what the vibe was like in the studio that night, and all I can say is, these rappers really hated each other and all that they stood for.

Ice Pinky who represented Brooklyn, Texas, to the fullest really did not like the fact that That Boy Big Weed of Houston’s infamous Hustle Skwad was not “representing the knowledge, god” and once that was communicated, it just escalated from there.

Download this while you can, because I know Ice Pinky‘s label fought long and hard to keep this battle from being heard.

Use the comments section to weigh in on who you think won. I have always thought Big Weed took a close decision over I.P. even before the unfortunate altercation happened at the end.

* … that took place in 2000, on a Thursday night, at a radio station in Austin.
