This week’s SOUNDLIB features the much anticipated return of THE DOUBLE-J, founder of Foundation Media and Trilogy Records.
Back in February dude came through with a couple of sets featuring a lot of dope new and classic Hip-Hop alongside some gems from other genres. We’re glad we could pull him away from his usual Wednesday night hoop sessions to come rock with us again.
Of course, I’ll also be in the spot doing the damn thing with my usual blend of soul (new and old), funk, Hip-Hop, afrobeat, reggae and much more.
As always, the party is FREE. And don’t forget, we start and end EARLY (9pm-1am).

Okay, so this has been a long time coming:
This week at SOUNDLIB we’re honored to feature special guest PROBE DMS from the production crew SPYMUSIC and from ELEVATIONS RADIO, the trailblazing broken beat radio show that we featured here back in October. The Brooklyn-born Harlemite has made a name for himself as a producer, DJ, engineer and MC and his music has gotten spins from such legends as DJ Spinna, Benji B (1xtra), Bugz in the Attic, and Dego MacFarlane (4 Hero), who loved PROBE‘s music so much, he picked up SPYMUSIC‘s cult-classic “Cloak” single for his renowned 2000Black label.
Not only is PROBE gifted on the decks (and the mic), but his depth of musical knowledge and skill is mind-blowing. His music and his sets are inspired by Hip-Hop, R&B, Broken Beat, rare groove, classics and all points in between, and his sets are always inspiring and forward-thinking. It’s a real treat to have him come bless us at SoundLib.
Read up much more about PROBE and check out ELEVATIONS RADIO here:
www.elevationsradio.com
I’ll also be on hand serving up soul (new and old), funk, Hip-Hop, afrobeat, reggae and much more. As always, the party is FREE all night. We start early and end EARLY (9pm-1am), so we won’t keep you out too late on a weeknight. Hope to see you there. …

This month’s AFRO-DUB SESSIONS will feature an Africa-inspired guest set by AMIR from the world-renown record-collecting duo Kon and Amir.
For years, AMIR has been sharing his ridiculously deep knowledge of music by compiling rare grooves for Kon and Amir’s legendary Kings of Diggin’, On Track, and Off Track releases on BBE Records. This includes the just-released Off Track III mix CD, which features eclectic African disco and soul from the period following Fela Kuti’s mid-70s creative peak.
AMIR also heads the record label arm of Wax Poetics magazine.
The night also will feature two performances by SUPER HI-FI, the resident Afro-Dub band which has been packing the house with their creative melding of Afrobeat and Dub.
SLF resident DJ’s LINH, Q-MASTAH and LIL TIGER will keep the party popping on the decks. And of course, the party is FREE all night long.

BuhbOmp’s own JD will be joining me this week at SoundLib. It’s been a minute since I’ve DJed with dude, so I’m really looking forward to having him as our special guest for the night.
Of course, the Houston native is known best here in New York for his collaboration with The Rub’s DJ Ayres on the critically-acclaimed Houston for Dummies mix CD showcasing some of the best tunes from Houston’s storied Hip-Hop scene. He’s also known for his killer bounce and reggae sets. But JD‘s range extends much deeper than country rap tunes and bounce.
Dude is about good music in any genre, whether it’s soul, rock, funk, disco, house, remixes or a melding of any of the above. He’ll have free reign at SoundLib to do whatever he wants. I’ve known this dude for a long, long time, and on the decks he never disappoints.

After taking a week off, SOUNDLIB is back this week and we’ve got a special treat: my good friend and one of my favorite DJ’s CHIKCEN GEORGE will be in town from Austin to get down on the decks with me.
CHICKEN GEORGE has made his name internationally through his signature “Jazztronica” style, an amalgamation of jazz, soul, eclectic bass and everything in between. His sets are known for their rare combination of superb technical skill and exceptional song selection.
Aside from being one of the premier tastemakers in the Austin music scene, CHICKEN GEORGE has released two records on the world-renowned, Stockholm-based label SWEDISH BRANDY. The two EPs, The Swed.u.s.h Connection 1 and 2, bring together tracks from Ocote Soul Sounds, J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, Lady Alma, and Hydroponic Sound System, alongside some of CHICKEN’s own production.
He has shared the stage with a wide range of talent including The Wailers, Pete Rock, Jazzanova, John Legend, Grandmaster Flash, Biz Markie, The Roots, Talib Kweli, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Afrika Bambaataa, Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra and Erykah Badu. So, we’re deeply honored to have him join us at SOUNDLIB.
For more on CHICKEN GEORGE, check out this recent interview he did for AOL’s Spinner music blog.
We’ve also featured three of his mixed here on buhbOmp:
¬ DJ Chicken George – The Legendary Latin Funk Sounds of Brownout
¬ Chicken George – Soundwave 10-Year Anniversary “Jazztronica” Mix
¬ Chicken George mix for Phunkwhatchaheard! Radio’s one-year Anniversary Show
As always, the party is FREE, and starts at 9pm. Details below. Hope to see you there.
