Rocksteady Crew, Da Beatminerz, BlackMoon, Boot Camp Click, Blackstar, De La Soul, Flipmode Squad…….ladies n gentlemen we could go on all night with this. The list of accomplishments and people that this brotha has worked with is phenomenal. The music he is apart of is a piece hip hop history. There is no way to explain it you have to witness it and we are EXTREMELY pleased to have him bless the wheels for us all.
AKALEPSE
Truth & Soul records’ own Akalepse has been in the Dj scene since 1993. Previous legendary APT club resident, you might have seen him on stage with the likes of KRS-One, Cypress Hill, Kenny Dope, DJ Spinna, Lord Finesse, J-Rocc, DJ Scratch, & Just Blaze to name a few. He’s currently running the well respected weekly party PROPS along with Philly-bred Dj Rich Medina.
SHASH’U | MTL (CA)
Montreal-born producer and DJ, Shash’U has been getting worldwide attention since 2009, mostly through his beat productions, largely used in international dance competitions. He’s been opening for artists such as ?uestLove, DJ Premier, Dibia$e, Blu & Exile.
LIL TIGER | NYC/TX
Caribbean-born, Houston-raised DJ Lil Tiger, is the host of IMPULSE TRAVELS, an international music show on WHCR 90.3fm in Harlem from 3-6am ET on Tuesday mornings. He cultivates his soulful sound from a blend of r&b, funk, disco, house, broken beat, soca, dancehall, afro-latin rhythms and Hip-Hop. The Queens-based Arubian DJ is founder of BuhbOmp.com, and co-hosted two of Texas’ seminal underground Hip-Hop shows, the House of Phat Beats (Austin/KVRX) and the Dolla Holla Show (Austin/KO.OP).
For the second-time ever, Juste Debout, the premier dance event for POPPIN, LOCKIN, HIP-HOP, HOUSE and TOPROCK that gathers the top competitors from 16 different countries to compete on a world stage, will hold a competition in the U.S., and NYC is the place to be.
I’ll be spinning some of the practice sessions, so stop through and say hello. It’s an all-day event, and I guarantee it will be well-worth the price of admission. The first Juste Debout USA in Brooklyn two years ago, was one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever been a part of. The talent is amazing and the energy and camaraderie were on another level. I HIGHLY recommend checking this event out.
If you wanna get a feel for what this competition is like, peep this video from the Hip-Hop finals at the last Juste Debout USA two years ago:
Winners from Juste Debout USA will receive round trip tickets to Paris and the opportunity to represent the U.S. in an Olympic setting for the World Finals.

This Labor Day, the good folks at SLF will team up with Brooklyn culinary hot spot DO OR DINE in Bed-Stuy to bring you a special food-meets-music treat, a new party called RUB-A-GRUB, with special guests RICH MEDINA and QUEEN MAJESTY. I’ll also be doing an early set, as will fellow SLF music nerd DJ LINH.
For those who don’t already know, RICH MEDINA is a living legend in the DJ scene. Famous for his Jump ‘n’ Funk and Little Ricky’s Ribshack parties (among many others), he’s also known for his exhaustive knowledge of music and deep record collection. SLF fam Eilon Paz interviewed and photographed Rich as part of Eilon’s awesome Dust and Grooves photo project and website, which features famous diggers and their record collections.
The photo above is part of that project. You can check out more of Eilon’s work, and the full interview with RICH MEDINA on the Dust and Grooves site.
At RUB A GRUB, Rich will be taking the party on a sonic journey through hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, funk and soul.
QUEEN MAJESTY is no slouch with the records either, having collected reggae vinyl for 16 years. As one of the members of NYC’s famed Deadly Dragon Sound, her reggae music expertise is unquestioned. She hosts the weekly “Jamaica Rock” show on East Village Radio, and will be blessing us with some amazing reggae tunes on Labor Day.
SLF‘s DJ LINH should be known to the Sound Liberation faithful from her sets at AFRO DUB SESSIONS and the CONEY ISLAND REGGAE BEACH PARTY, among others. A crate digger in her own right, she’s also an exceptional singer, musician and total badass.
Of course, yours truly, DJ LIL TIGER, host of WHCR 90.3fm’s weekly Impulse Travels Radio Show will also be on the decks adding some soulful Caribbean-influenced dance vibes to the mix, and generally bringing the motherfucking ruckus.
In addition to quality music, the event will showcase the creative culinary delights that has made DO OR DINE one of the most talked about restaurants in Brooklyn. There will be a special menu designed by chefs GEORGE McNEESE and JUSTIN WARNER, who was recently crowned the winner of “Food Network Star” Season 8. For more on budding superstar Warner, peep his bio video on Food Network.
The RUB-A-GRUB menu will include several appetizer selections as well as beer and cocktail specials.
All-in-all, it’s gonna be a night packed with exceptional food and great music. Space is limited, so buying tickets in advance is highly recommended.
