Abstract Truth – Get Another Plan (Extended Mix)
Monique Bingham‘s voice is just too beautiful. Abstract Truth is known for their house classic “We Had a Thing”, but the drums on this tune rule my world. I think this dropped in 1996, well before this type of shit was on my radar. Shouts to Aser for putting me on to this many moons ago. To add some perspective to your time warp, feast your eyes on this.
Erup – Mek Noise
Been in a dancehall mood lately, and this tune off the Dashboard Riddim has been in my heavy rotation of late. Another hot production from Truck Back and Erup, the folks that brought you the massive “Click Mi Finga.”
Demarco – Gal A You (raw)
**Audio NSFW** Another fire tune from Demarco, who’s “Fallen Soldiers” tune mashed everything last year. This one is off the Outada Riddim, which came out some time back in October, I think. No matter, this shit stays hot. And I can’t lie, I’m a total sucker for these throwback riddims anyway.
Witchdoctor feat. OutKast – Dez Only 1
Gotta take it back a bit with this one. Some of y’all might remember Witchdoctor’s “Holiday”. I know in Houston and in Austin, we played the fuck out of this tune for a long, LONG time. What folks might not know is that Witchdoctor put out a full-length solo album called A S.W.A.T. Healin’ Ritual that had some real gems on it. Not everything from that record has held up over time, but this tune still does it for me. It doesn’t hurt that 3 Stacks and Sir Lucious Left Foot put it down real strong. I can’t believe it’s been over 10 years since this song came out.
Mandrill – Mango Meat
Since I’m already looking back, here’s another one from the vaults. I’ve mentioned this one before. One of my favorite Hip-Hop songs of all time (from probably my favorite Hip-Hop album of all time) is the Jungle Brothers’ “Straight Out the Jungle,” which was born from the greatness of this Mandrill masterpiece.

Aaliyah “Rock The Boat (Stimulated Remix)“
I always thought that I would get to meet Aaliyah. Baby Girl Rest In Peace.
Brandy “Drum Song”
This is probably the only track from her latest album that works in a DJ set. It’s got somewhat of a smooth, broken feel to it. I used to not like Brandy because she looked like a goldfish with braids, but you can’t deny that she has some bangers. Still, I can look past Moesha and all that as she’s developed into a nice looking woman. But if it came down to it and I had to pick between her and Monica in a battle of “The Boy Is Mine”, Monica wins.
Slim “Good Lovin'” (Feat. Ryan Leslie & Fabolous)
WOW! This track’s got the perfect amount of knock, funk, bounce and sessiness to it, rapping aside. Slim can be hit or miss, but this one’s a killa. Ryan Leslie is becoming a personal favorite for current productions the more I hear him. Hello BPMs in the 90s.
Amel Larrieux “Giving Something Up”
Amel has that winning combination of looks and sangin skills. However, seeing her live is a different thing. Yes, it’s live and in person, BUT she goes off on scattin’ (no 2 girls, one cup-o) reminiscent of Kim Wayans as the lounge singer doing “When The Saints Go Marching In” in “I’m Gonna Git You Sucka.” With that, I love this track.
Notorious B.I.G. “Just Playin'” (Dreams)
Just because. (PS. I still have a crush on Dawn from En Vogue.)

From The Rap Up Blog
Twitter, the microblogging platform that allows people to share their thoughts with the world in 140 characters or less, is everyone’s latest web obsession. Contrary to what your grandma said, though, Twitter is more than just a chatterbox of lunch updates. It’s a chatterbox of breakfast, lunch, and dinner updates. Jokes aside, Twitter is a fun way to connect with friends, family, ex-lovers, and online stalkers. And did I mention that it’s the only site where you’ll find Erykah Badu and Amanda Diva debating sexy pics or Count Bass D wondering why no one ever toasts bagel on the outside?
In NO particular order, here are 100 hip-hop people to follow on Twitter:
39. Don Cannon – Only slightly less influential than Jimmy Iovine
40. Cashless – Deadly on the 1’s & 2’s
41. Jean Grae – Better than your favorite female rapper
That’s right, just below Don Cannon… cannon.. cannon… and right above Jean “No Whut Whut” Grae, there’s lil ole’ me. Although the list is strongly emphasized as being in NO PARTICULAR ORDER, I’d like that somehow I below amongst the names named for a reason. Needless to say, I’m honored and I appreciate the big ups in the description. Either way, follow me like Tupac on the adlibs of Hail Mary.
You can see more of the one Rizoh’s musing at his blog, The Rap Up.

Tawiah – Everystep
The first time I heard Tawiah sing was with Mark de Clive-Lowe at one of his Free Soul Sessions at Nublu here in NY. She absolutely murdered it. She’s got a commanding stage presence and a lot of vocal range. “Everystep” is off her In Jodi’s Bedroom EP, which is brilliant.
Anthony Hamilton – She’s Gone
More people should be talking about this dude. I love his latest album The Point of It All from start to finish. Here’s the bonus cut.
Serani – We Grow
One of the hottest tunes on one of the hottest riddims (Beauty) of the 2008.
Shurwayne Winchester and Y.O.U. – Wanna Make Love
Big tune! Shurwayne is a champion, on road and on the dancefloor. Backed by his new band Y.O.U., this mid-tempo tune should satisfy the sexy set worldwide. Shouts to the dude El Professor of G13 Sound for passing this my way.
Johnny Ray – No Cambio a Mi Puerto Rico
I know this is off of a Christmas record, which makes this kinda late, but the greatness of this salsa tune can’t be restrained by a season or holiday. For all the Boriquas out there, Johnny Ray got a little something for you.
NOTE: We’ve also added a new section to the site, the Welfare archive, for easy access and quick reference to all our Welfare handouts. The link is also in our menu at the top of the site. …
For our 11th episode, EMPANADAMN and DJ LIL TIGER team up on a quick, 40-minute mix of styles from Hip-Hop, soul, pop and beyond with throwbacks and currents all thrown in. We have plenty on the slate for ’09, so nibble on this for a bit and enjoy the holidays.

Jef Cashless | making L.A. look like Japan daily…
Emynd – Reach Out
The first time I heard this track, I was sold. You dudes talking that, “Bmore is played” talk, need check your crotchety, mad young, old man at the door. Cooley High flashbacks like a mug.
Scarface feat Jay-Z & Beenie Sigel – Guess who’s back
I posted this cut for a couple of reasons, primarily because it’s still embodies everything that can be good about hip hop. Secondly, as a reminder never to take even the most seemingly insignificant thing for granted. Brad Jordan is retiring the moniker Scarface after his lastest lp, Emeritus. ‘Face will be missed.
Hot 8 Brass Band – Get up (Diesler remix)
Not for nothing, your boy, Diesler has quietly become one of my favorite remixers. NOLA + handclaps from hell + sampler = heat. Simple equation.
Amp Fiddler, Sly & Robbie – Blackhouse (Paint the Whitehouse Black)
I really wished the mainstream media would have shown some false sense of outrage at such a provocative, beautiful piece of music as this. Instead, we have a lackadaisical offering from Jeezy and Nas and forgettable mixtape fodder from Luda. Hopefully this seeming to tribute to both Obama and George Clinton is welcome at buhbOmp. It’s produced/performed by soulman extraordinaire, Amp Fiddler, as well as Reggae legends and elder statespeople, Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare.
*Sorry DJ’s only @ 183kbps
J-Dawg feat Slim Thug – Ridin’ on 4’s
One of the hardest Houston tracks from 2007. Nuff Said.

dj lil tiger | future perfect
D’angelo – Shit, Damn, Motherfucker (live)
I miss this dude, and I’m still pissed that I missed this tour and have never gotten to see dude perform live. D’Angelo is a beast, and this recording (live in Sweden, I think) just drives that home.
Herbert – The Audience
The closing cut from Herbert‘s classic 2001 LP Bodily Functions. Dani Siciliano showing her brilliance on the vocals. You gotta listen to this all the way through. It’s all about the change up when the keys come in. This song haunts me.
La Rouge – Alla Deng Lobi
An old favorite of mine from Surinamese/Dutch band La Rouge off their #8 Hosse Hosse album. Get inside the rhythm and percussion on this. Big up to cousin Daryl for passing me this CD in Arnhem a while back.
Mr V – Put Your Drink Down (Copyright Remix)
Funky house re-work of this big tune from the Lower East Side’s Mr. V feat. the Candela All Stars. PR-NY-UK connect.
Neon Phusion – The Future Ain’t The Same As It Used 2 b
Another tune from around the turn of the century, but still as forward-thinking and ahead of its time as ever. There are so many amazing layers to this tune and so many progressions from beginning to end — the vocals, the percussion, instrumentation — that I don’t even know where to begin. Neon Phusion was a collaboration between Bugz in the Attic’s Afronaut, Alex Phountzi and Kaidi Tatham. This track features the percussion programming by IG Culture. That’s a combo that just can’t go wrong. Just put this on and let it ride. Tune everything else out. This song is just beautiful. It boggles my mind that this tune is almost 10 years old now.

empanadamn | HO, HO, HOEZ!
Run DMC “Christmas Time In Hollis”
The quintessential hip-hop x Christmas track. The video is great as well. I remember MTV’s holiday commercial spot using this song back in the day with animations by Keith Haring, who also did the cover art to the album.
Carlos Feliciano “Feliz Navidad”
Funky Bilinguin’. As a child, I remember seeing Señor Feliciano rip it on some holiday Christmas special feeling a great sense of pride. Dude has a lot of passion when he sings and plays.
Carlitos “Mi Burrito Sabanero”
Another clasico en español. This is a well known childrens version, sung by a young Venezuelan boy in the 70s. See the video here.
Vince Guaraldi “Christmas Time Is Here” (Instrumental)
Made famous from the holiday TV special “A Charlie Brown Christmas” this song is synonymous to Xmas at home for me. Strangely enough, this track strikes a mixture of emotions – warmth and happiness contrasted by somberness, longing, and loneliness. Such is the complexity of Charlie Brown’s character.
Vince Guaraldi Trio “Linus & Lucy (Pocketknife’s Hark, The Holler Remix)”
A revamped version for the Peanuts crew, this one always puts a smile on people’s face when they hear it in the mix. P.S. My mom does a great version of the teacher from Peanuts.
Holiday season is upon us, with the economy in shitsville and budgets already extended to the max, you know you need another Welfare handout. We got you.

Beck – Black Tambourine (South Rakkas Crew Remix)
1st off is a Beck remix (again). This one is a South Rakkas remix of “Black Tambourine”. Pretty nifty.
T-Pain – bartender (b.cause spoonie 83 remix)
I never really got into this song, but this remix is right up my alley. The God B.Cause pretty much always comes through. This time with an old school Spoonie G vibe.
Outkast – Players Ball (jd Extended Mix) (92)
Seeing as this was originally a Christmas song, it seems appropriate. I blended together the reprise and the remix vocal and added an inst intro for ease.
Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Mr. Vegas, Kymani Marley – party in session (jd – beastie boys blend)
I did this little blend a while back and recently found it again while going through a ton of music. This original 12″ (if I remember correctly) was a little hard to find and came out on clear vinyl. I put it over the “Hold it Now, Hit It” instrumental for a bass-heavy gig I was doing. Came out alright.
Curtis Mayfield – We’re A Winner (AYB Force Remix)
Lastly, I found this in my Obama folder from a gig I did right after election night. Great remix of Curtis Mayfield’s “We’re a Winner” with some beefed up drums. Done by these guys in Japan.

dj lil tiger | holidays got me dizzy …
IG Culture – Consumed (Refit)
This is the dude. It’s no secret I think IG is a genius. Favorite producer, hands down. More brilliant beat work, with word power to boot. Off the IG’s Zen Badizm album released earlier this year.
Trus’me – Vibrations
Sick futuristic disco/house vibes from UK’s Trus’me. Propers to Chicken George for putting me on to this.
Sleepy’s Theme – Grind On
Oldie but goodie. Slept on side project of Organized Noize and the man Sleepy Brown. Off the classic The Vinyl Room album, which you need in your life.
Roger Riley & Teddy Troutman – Buck ‘Em Down
“The Death of Autotune, one track at a time.” You know you want more of this in your life.
Tego Calderon – Ni Fu Ni Fa
Don’t let the name fool you, this shit is way better than “so-so.” Trust. Tego slays.

Black Milk “Give The Drummer Sum”
Some of that chunky Detroit boom…..bap from MC / producer Black Milk.
Jay-Z “Brooklyn (Go Hard)” Feat. Santogold
Sounds like “Swagga Like Us” featuring vocal sample by Santogold. Supposedly appearing on the NOTORIOUS sound track dropping next month(!)
Justin Timberlake “Magic”
Midtempo for the ladies. And me.
MGMT “Electric Feel” (Remix Feat. Jim Jones)
A little bit hip-hop, a little bit psychedelic-hippiester rock n’ roll.
Noreaga “Rotate” (Feat. Ron Brows & Busta Rhymes)
On the run eating (and it shows), N.O.R.E. comes out the gate with that ol’ WHAT! WHAT!
Just in time for the run up to Turkey Day, here’s our latest Welfare handout of musical treats to help put some pep in your steps as you’re elbowing your way to the turkey aisle at the supermarket.
dj lil tiger | bird feed …
SJOB Movement “Love Affair”
Some Nigeria disco funk to loosen up your feets.
Roy Ayer’s “I Am Your Mind Part 2 (Sal’s Nostalgia Edit)
Nice treatment by the man Sal Paradise. Peep more of his edits at his blog.
Roll Deep “Do Me Wrong”
I love me some Roll Deep, the East London crew that brought the world Dizzee and Wiley. This is a hot uptempo little club joint that’s fun as hell.
Serani “Crying For Peace”
Consciousness from the man Serani of “No Games” and “Dying” fame. On the Merge riddim. Love this tune.
Peter Ram “Tight”
This is my mid-tempo soca jam of the moment. Been digging Peter Ram‘s Bajan sounds for a minute now.

cashless | Super Disco Backpack Rap Braekz4dayz
Ron Browz – “Jumpin”
Autotune, love it or hate it, it’s not going anywhere for a while, at least if Ron Browz has anything to say about it. Kanye, T-Pain, Lil Wayne... Browz is the new king of autotune and unless you’re willing to implant an Antares VST in your brain, you ain’t putting autotune to more use than Browz. I’m not sure if dude has a real voice at all.
Q-Tip – “Move”
I know. I’m just as surprised as you are. I got tired of listening to the new authorities on “real hip hop.” You know the ones. They always recommend one bland backpack rap lp after another. They lost me somewhere along the road. I’m not carrying the flag any longer. I’m now somewhere between trying to see young ladies “Pop it 4 pimp” at the knucklehead 18 & up club and getting my grown and sexy on with people who’s outfit at the club cost more than my rent. Somehow “Move” is exactly where I’m at.
Lil Wayne – “Mrs. Officer (Gregg Nyce/Estelle refix)”
I don’t know what to tell you. The G&S set goes crazy for this blend and so do I. So there.
(**EDITOR’S NOTE: Cashless accidentally put the original version of this tune instead of the refix in his zip file. He’s spinning right now, but will sort all that out afterward, so stay tuned for the correct version soon)
**Update of the update** The corrected version is now located below.
Trina feat Killer Mike – “Look back at me”
I’m dropping a recurrent here. Nothing new or anything. I’m really digging the intermingled screwed adlibs, but what really makes me flip is seeing women act out the lyrics on the dancefloor. This song is so nasty that it makes ME blush.
Rihanna – “Disturbia (Emynd’s Finally Blend)”
Outside of her looks, I haven’t been feeling much Rihanna lately. That doesn’t mean that her output can’t be salvaged. Emynd of CrossfadedBacon.com and Nolabounce.com comes strong to save what’s normally an unlistenable cut.

Platinum Pied Pipers – “Try Me”
I like this song and have always dug their production
Meshell N’degecocello – “Hot Night”
Same here. One song with Talib that I can actually enjoy
Ming and FS – “Kings County”
A great tribute to a great borough.
Raphael Saadiq – “Get Involved (Remix)”
I used to play this record all the time, and this remix definitely delivers.
Self Scientific “The Return”
Strap on your back pack for this underground classic.

DJ Yoda “Food” (Feat. Edan)
A cutty & paste ode to vittles (tender if you please).
Weird Al “Eat It”

Goodie MOB “Soul Food”
“FUCK CHRIS DARDEN! FUCK MARSHA CLARK!”
AMG “Jiggable Pie”
2 (big) slices plaese.
Weird Al “Fat”
“Yo, Ding-Dong, man. Ding-Dong, yo.”

dj lil tiger | blake gideon hurt my feelings …
Kanye “Love Lockdown (Nu Era mix)”
Would this be considered a bruk mash? Not sure who is ultimately responsible for this one, but I dig it on a weird level. Kanye over a spacy, techy broken track by Nu Era, aka Marc Mac of 4hero
Busy Signal “I Fucked Your Girl”
Yeah, you know, for giggles and shits and what not.
Donae’o “African Warrior”
Damn Brits, always making me feel the wrath of the latte pass. Not new, but recently exposed to me. This UK Funky shit is my shit. Donae’o was a fave of mine back when I first started getting into UKG, so I dig that he’s on this scene.
H-Town All-Stars “Obama ’08”
Bun, Chamilli, Paul Wall, Cory Mo, Trae. Oh, and some verbiage from our next president. Can’t go wrong. Bump this on the way to the polls, if you haven’t already gotten your early vote on. HOUSTON STAND THE FUCK UP.
Lauryn Hill “Want You Around (Probe DMS remix)”
From the vaults. Probe is one of NY’s best kept secrets. If you get a chance to catch him spin, you won’t be disappointed. And he got the chops on the production side. Believe it.
download: Hold that.

O.C. Smith – “Sounds of Goodbye”
My vinyl rip and dedication to Bush. See ya later!
Markus Enochson – “What About Us”
A stellar Brandy rework. This is an oldie but a goodie.
Beck – “Dirty Dirty”
Also quite old, but never leaves the crates. This is off of the remix and b-sides disc.
Archie Bell & The Drells – “Tighten Up” (Bobby LaBeat Re-work)
You can pretty much catch me never playing anything resembling bmore club, but this song is significant for a few reasons. The first being that it is just a beast of a song, the remix kept the essence of the original and of course, Archie and his Drells are from Texas.
Bjork – “Who Is It” (Vitalic Mix)
I just really like this remix. So jamming.
download: Take that, take that.

empanadamn | For the club | Serato ready
Aidonia “Flyin’ Dagger”
Aidonia’s voice kinda reminds me of Vybz Kartel with less gumption. Still, he posses a flow that can ride a range of sounds. This track, on the Sky Daggering riddim, is on the uptempo tip for your faster sets.
Beyoncé “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”
One for the ladies, this one picks up where “Get Me Bodied” left off. It’s produced by Darkchild, but sounds like a Swizzy joint with its chunkyness and jump. The clencher for me was watching the video. BOING!
Cory Gunz “Get Right Tonight” (Feat. Ryan Leslie)
I like this song because dude’s name is “Cory Gunz” and he’s from the Bronx. What’s more is that Ryan Leslie’s on the beat. Some midtempo filler.
Jazzanova “I Can See” (Feat. Ben Westbeech)
Germany’s Jazzanova returns with their 2nd full length studio album “Of All The Things”. With each release they seem to do something different, which I can appreciate. One of my favorite cuts, “I Can See” features Ben Westbeech, a soulful British bloke sangs, with ze Germans rock the new-old soul sound filled with strings, horns and xylophone.
T-Pain “Freeze” (Feat. Chris Brown)
A poppy joint for the club with a good balance of drum knock & synth. It has a couple of beatbox breakdowns and lacks catchy hook which kinda kills its momentum for a major tune.
download: Choose or Lose
UPDATE: Lil Tiger will be holding down the early set tonight from 10p-12a. NO COVER BEFORE MIDNIGHT, so be sure to get there early and say what’s up.
