It’s time for our monthly SLF collabo with our extended fam at Music Without Borders, and we’ve got something big in store for you.

This Tuesday at Kush in the Lower East Side, the incredibly skilled DJ KAYPER of BBC Asian Network will be in town all the way from London to be the featured guest DJ. Kayper is ill. Not only does she play dope tunes, but she’s gifted on the cut. Peep some footage of how she gets down:

I’ll be throwing down a set on the international tip as well, and we’ll be celebrating the birthday of The BRMG founder Alberto, one of the coolest motherfuckers on the face of this good earth. Residents Kunal Merchant and Seif Al-Din will hold it down on the decks as well.

After a long days work, come by for an evening of choice tunes, refreshing drinks and scrumptious grub! While you’re listening to international grooves, take part in a series of classic games ranging from Dominoes to Connect Four to playing FIFA on a huge screen! We’ll have everything in place, just come by prepared to battle!

Also we’ll have an OPEN BAR from Ciroc from 8-9pm, so make sure you’re in the house for that.

Music Without Borders Tuesdays at Kush starts early at 7pm and cools down around midnight. And again, it’s NO COVER the whole night.

/// This month’s party will feature DJ AFRO-MARC, renowned for his two popular online outlets, The Afrobeat Blog (http://afrobeatblog.blogspot.com) and The Afro-Marc Podcast (http://djafromarc.podomatic.com), where he has been spreading his love and knowledge of African music and all things funky. Afro-Marc has promoted and spun at parties featuring some of the area’s best African-inspired music artists such as Chico Mann, Superhuman Happiness, Ikebe Shakedown, and Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble. As a writer, he has interviewed African legends Tony Allen, Salif Keita and Femi Kuti, as well as newer African-inspired artists Bajah and the Dry Eye Crew and Antibalas, among others. He also covers world music as a regular contributor to The Huffington Post.

As it does every month, Afro-Dub Sessions will also feature a pair of live performances by resident band SUPER HI-FI, which has been packing the house with their creative melding of Afrobeat, Dub, live remixing and special guest appearances. The five-piece collective features members of Aphrodesia, Slavic Soul Party, The Superpowers, and the Blue Man Group.

SLF’s resident DJs LINH and Q-MASTAH will bring their diverse musical selections to the turntables to round out the night.

This week at SOUNDLIB, we’ve got a special double-feature for you: Austin legends BROTHA K and DJ STARSIGN.

BROTHA K, aka THE OL’ SKOOL GENIUS, is one of the pioneers of the Austin Hip-Hop scene and is known for his extensive knowledge and collection of classic Hip-Hop. BROTHA K was the mastermind behind the DOLLA HOLLA OL’ SKOOL SHOW, originally a monthly showcase of old school Hip-Hop on DJ LIL TIGER‘s popular Dolla Holla radio show on KO.OP in the late 90s and early 2000s. BROTHA K became co-host of the weekly show after LIL TIGER‘s departure and has since solidified his status as one of Austin’s most charismatic talents through his work as an on-air personality on commercial radio, a host on Magic video, and as a DJ at various hot spots around town. The Buffalo-native has been holding the torch for Hip-Hop in Austin for more than 20 years. It’s a profound honor to have him join us at SOUNDLIB.

As if that weren’t enough, we’re also really excited to have DJ STARSIGN spin as well. The founder of the PARAKITACHI DJ crew (that featured DJs Chicken George, Melodic, Nick Nack, and LIL TIGER, among others), STARSIGN is one of Austin’s premier tastemakers. His eclectic style and versatile sets span the depths of house, jazz, dub, electronica, funk, rap, disco, latin, ambient, blues and all things rooted in soul and dance.

STARSIGN‘s appearance with LIL TIGER at SOUNDLIB will mark the reunion of the SOUND ACADEMY, the duo’s monicker from their days spinning soulful tunes in various spots around Houston in the early 2000s.
