This one’s for all my production nerds and assorted beat heads out there.

Michel Rouzic at Photosounder, audio-editing software that uses sound-image manipulation to offer enhanced sound editing capabilities, claims to have used images created by his program to extrapolate individual instruments from a sound recording. Other programs have made similar claims, but the quality on this is the best of the bunch that I’ve thus far.

Check out how he isolated the synths and the drums and vocals from Ohio Players’ “Funky Worm“:

Time will tell how practically this method can be applied to other songs, but it seems legit. And just the idea of it all is kinda blowing my mind right now. This could open up a lot of doors.
