Our good friend Mike Swing from Austin sat in with us this week. It was a bit of a radio reunion from our days doing Hip-Hop and R&B radio shows in Austin back in the day.

In addition to Mike gracing us with his presence, we also played a special guest mix from The Hague’s D-Felic, whom we featured and interviewed last month.

We started with a special soca/Caribbean set as a final salute to the day’s Labor Day Carnival festivities earlier in Brooklyn. The first hour of this week’s show was dedicated to our friend and fellow DJ Elroy Boogie, who passed away on Sunday, August 18, at the all-too-young age of 27 after losing a battle with cancer. I said a few words in his memory and played an uptempo funk/disco/dance mix called Superdooper that he made last year. I mostly knew Roy through friends, but, as he did with most people, he left an indelible impression on me with his his good nature, his jokes and his unforgetable smile.

King Elroy Boogie, we will miss you dearly, but we will never ever forget. Thank you for being a part of all of our lives.

The show also included an interview with Amsterdam producer/DJ/musician Kid Sublime, who has been making and performing exceptional music soul, house, broken beat, hip-hop (among others) for years. He was a founding member of Rednose Distrikt, has put out numerous releases for labels like Kindred Spirits and DopenessGalore.

In the interview, we talked about his musical history, his basement studio, Detroit techno in Amsterdam, the past and future of instrumentation in music, his work with artists like Lady Alma, Declaime and Georgia Anne Muldrow and more. Empandamn let his pelo mexicano down this episode with a show of predominantly Latin American music to coincide with the Latin American Music Conference that took place in New York that same week. DJ Lil Tiger – de LULverhalen mix by Djliltiger on Mixcloud

My cousin Howard Komproe is a comedian in Amsterdam, and he recently put together a comedy show in Holland called de LULverhalen, which he has been performing throughout the Netherlands and, starting this month, in the Dutch Caribbean. He asked me to do a mix of some of his favorite broken beat, house and soul cuts from back in the day that he could play at the end of his show. So here it is. Short but sweet. Enjoy.
