I played the beat for this tune in touch&feel:radio episode 15.0 (New episode is in the works, so stay tuned):
Am I the only one suddenly reminded of this?
We featured an early preview of Karizma‘s much anticipated A Mind of Its Own V2.0 album back in March.
Well, the promo machine keeps chugging away (and I’ll shamelessly help that effort here). R2, the label, has just released an EPK (electronic press kit) for the new record, which is slated for release on June 29. You can sample all 15 tracks via the player on their site. You can also check out the promo video below:
Some of the footage in the video was taken from an interview with OffTheMeters.com. You can check out their full Karizma interview there.
And here’s the sneak preview podcast they’ve done for the album. (It’s longer than the sampler I posted back in March).

After setting 2007 alight with his award winning debut solo album A Mind Of Its Own, Karizma returns with the highly anticipated sequel: A Mind Of Its Own – Version 2.0 The Upgrade! Karizma continues to defy categorization as he moves between his customarily ferocious club bangers through down-tempo burners, atmospheric soundtracks and even smoothed out soul with featured vocalists Monique Bingham, Fruity and Djinji Brown on rap duty. Karizma’s trademark fusion of raw electronic grooves transcend through the house, broken, dubstep and so called ‘funky house’ scenes, his raw style influencing beatmakers across the genres. Karizma has been putting in the work in 2008 tearing up dancefloors the world over from the far-east, throughout Europe and coast to coast in the U.S. In That time he produced over 20 tracks for this album, (additional tracks available digitally) not to mention remixes for numerous artists including 4Hero, Osunlade and Dennis Ferrer’s Objektivity label. On A Mind Of Its Own V2.0 The Upgrade, Karizma has raised the bar once again as he continues to find new ways to rock clubs, cars and headphones worldwide …
I know this is old, but I hadn’t seen it until last night, and it makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside that I can’t help but re-post it here. (Thanks to my friend Adrienne for sending this my way).
The kids are part of PS22 Chorus, a group of about 60 fifth-graders from Staten Island’s P.S. 22 in Granteville, directed by music teacher Gregg Breinberg. They have a ton of clips online at their YouTube channel. You can read more about them in their local paper, or follow their day-to-day achievements at the PS22 Chorus blog.
I had seen these kids do a Coldplay tune online somewhere a while back, and that was great, too. But “Jóga” is a song I actually give a shit about, so this one hits me a little deeper.
Here’s Björk’s original:
It’s a beautiful day outside in NY, and this new Soul Imperial mix from the good folks at Mixtape Riot is the perfect soundtrack. Ballantino and Elegante put a little of everything into this one and it works from front to back.
This is a mix to make you feel good and help celebrate life, just like we’ve been doing in Brooklyn so far this summer.

I actually like this. Go figure.
Back in 2000, I was witness to one of the greatest (and most overlooked) rap battles of all time. I’ve been asked over the years what the vibe was like in the studio that night, and all I can say is, these rappers really hated each other and all that they stood for.
Ice Pinky who represented Brooklyn, Texas, to the fullest really did not like the fact that That Boy Big Weed of Houston’s infamous Hustle Skwad was not “representing the knowledge, god” and once that was communicated, it just escalated from there.
Download this while you can, because I know Ice Pinky‘s label fought long and hard to keep this battle from being heard.

Use the comments section to weigh in on who you think won. I have always thought Big Weed took a close decision over I.P. even before the unfortunate altercation happened at the end.
* … that took place in 2000, on a Thursday night, at a radio station in Austin.
Paola Jean – “Featherlight” Director: David Wong from David Wong on Vimeo.

Paola Jean’s Featherlight video will be premiering on VH-1 Soul Monday 5/18 and on BETJ Soul Sessions.
This is Pelican, they are from Chicago and while they may not sing and dance, they play the kind of music that scares children, women and well, just about everybody else. How can you not love that?
and
and another thing…
I am very glad that I never have to worry about getting enough of my daily dose of lil wayne!
This past weekend I wrecked my first rental car! And I did it with no insurance! Top that, loser!
and because I never lie, (and I know you wanna know) lil tiger played strong safety for the Suwannee Bulldogs in ’68, here’s our team picture:
We eventually lost in the championship game, 17-14, I missed the field goal cause I was looking up the dress of this Hamilton County cheerleader …
You’re Welcome.
I first heard this remake while youtubing one of my favorite local emcees, Kay of The Foundation. Earlier today, Nicolay dropped a high quality version (320kpbs for all the bitrate nerds) of the song. I’ve reposted it here for you all to enjoy.
From Nicolay Music.
In July of 2006, I was approached by people representing world renowned jazz keyboardist Bob James. They were working on putting together a project, to be called ‘Sampling Bob James: The Nautilus Project’, on which several DJ’s and producers would present their take on one of the most sampled tracks in hip-hop history, ‘Nautilus’, from Bob James’ 1974 album ‘One’. To my delight, I was invited to be one of the contributors, but instead of sampling the original, I chose to ‘cover’ it and re-create the track from scratch.
They really liked my version of ‘Nautilus’, but the project has remained unreleased. My version did end up online, by way of a viral video. Ever since, people have been asking me for a high quality version, so… here it is! Enjoy, and please… spread the word. You are more than welcome to share the link or the file itself.
Thank you for listening,
Nicolay

An FBI Agent’s face when you start making Waflles – Priceless.
We’re still debating whether or not we should start printing up “Free Clipse” T-shirts…you know just in case the indictment comes down.
DJ LIL TIGER starts things off with a love-themed Soul set with splashes of classic disco and contemporary R&B. EMPANADAMN holds it down in the second half with a mesh of synthy dance, pop, Hip-Hop and electro.
